First: this cord is not 1/4" or 6mm. It's more like 7.5 to 8mm. If you're buying it to use as a friction hitch on smaller rope (say 9mm) it will be too large. However, even on appropriately sized rope, this stuff makes bad friction hitch cord. I've tried just about every friction hitch out there (prusik, VT, blake's, klemmheist, etc) and in every situation the cord grabs when it should slip and slips when it should grab. I've tried using it for both rope ascent and z-drag systems. It doesn't matter what you're doing. This is simply not very good prusik cord. I would highly recommend either Ocean Vectran (actually 6mm) or Ocean Polyester (8mm) if you're looking for an alternative. They work much better and are worth the extra cost.
That being said, this cordage would be great for anything else. It's clearly well made, and if it were sold as 7.5mm accessory cord I'd happily give it 5 stars. But I would never trust my life that it's going to grab when I need it to.
Response from Strapworks: We appreciate the feedback Aaron. We certainly do not recommend any of our rope for climbing, it is all meant as a utility rope. I will also take your comment about 7.5mm to management. Thanks
