Ratchet Strap made with 1-1/2 inch Flat Nylon Webbing. Flat nylon webbing 1-1/2 inch has a breaking strength of 4250 pounds with a thickness of 0.070 to 0.075 of an inch.
At Strapworks, we don't just supply strapping components. We give our customers the ability to design their very own straps exactly to their specifications. And when it comes to heavy-duty straps, there is no better choice than the ratchet strap. Ratchet straps are most often used for securing loads to trailers, rooftop carriers, boats, trucks and other applications that may require heavy-duty cargo straps. The ratchet buckle is an integral part of the ratchet strap because it allows you to tighten the strap with ease. A quick release mechanism means you don't have to worry about releasing tension whenever you want. We proudly offer a diverse collection of ratchet straps that will answer the call for whatever application that you need.
Breaking Strength: Determining Your Working Load
Despite their portable size, our 1 1/2 inch ratchet straps with nylon webbing are very heavy-duty. These nylon cargo straps have a 1 1/2 inch width and include the ratchet buckle. Nylon cargo straps have a high abrasion resistance that works well for any of the above applications. However, please be sure to keep in mind that a strap is only as strong as its weakest link. At Strapworks, we recommend determining a safe working load when deciding on the ideal webbing. The safe working load is one-third the breaking strength. For example, Strapworks' 1 1/2 inch flat nylon cargo strap webbing has a breaking strength of 4250 pounds. Therefore, a safe working load is 1416 pounds.
When determining a safe working load it is also important to consider the hardware and stitching. The 1 1/2 inch ratchet strap buckle is rated at 4400 pounds. Be sure to calculate your safe working load for your buckles and your stitching as well. When in doubt as to calculating the safe working load, Strapworks suggests that you buy one strap and test it for your application. Custom Options for Your Straps
When ordering your straps at Strapworks, you have the option to include a buckle pad sewn on the strap. Your choices of end hardware include coated S-hooks, coated safety S-hooks, wire hooks 2 inch, O-rings and metal beefy snaps. Please keep in mind the characteristics of the different types of webbing when ordering ratchet straps.
1 1/2 inch ratchet straps made with flat nylon webbing (like the one listed here) are the webbing of choice for high-abrasion applications. However, they are not recommended for use in or around water continuously because they are less water resistant than other strap materials, making them susceptible to mildew and rot.
Ratchet Straps made with patterned polyester webbing are perfect for heavy loads with high abrasion. Polyester has the best attributes of flat nylon (abrasion resistance) and heavyweight polypropylene (UV protection, water resistance).
Strapworks' "Patterned Polyester" is polyester that has been sublimated. Sublimation is a process that virtually tattoos the ink into the webbing by turning a solid ink into a permeating gas. This process is done in-house and allows for great detail and vivid custom colorfast colors. Polyester is the only material we carry that is consistent in its ability to be sublimated. The sublimation process may take an extra two to three days to fulfill your order. For more information on sublimation and custom designed straps, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Ratchet Straps made with heavyweight polypropylene webbing are suitable for medium duty outdoor applications. Heavyweight polypropylene webbing has excellent UV protection and does not absorb water quickly, thus giving it significant resistant to mildew and rot. However, polypropylene does not have good abrasion resistance, so it is not recommended for use against rough edges.
Ratchet Straps made with 1-1/2 inch polyester seatbelt webbing are a great choice for those looking for webbing that is lighter in weight than the regular polyester, but close in strength. Low stretch, low absorption, non-porous fiber and high strength makes this material an excellent choice for outdoor uses as well!
Please note that choosing the buckle pad option will add a sewn section of black heavyweight polypropylene under the buckle area to protect anything beneath it from scratching.
