Ratchet straps are most often used for securing loads to trailers, rooftop carriers, etc. The ratchet buckle allows you to tighten the strap with ease. A quick release mechanism means you don't have to worry about releasing tension when you want. The 1 inch ratchet straps are actually very heavy duty. This strap you are ordering made of 1 inch heavyweight polypropylene webbing is ideal for medium duty outdoor use. Heavyweight Polypropylene Webbing has excellent UV protection and low water absorption for better resistance to mildew and rot, but heavyweight polypropylene webbing has poor abrasion resistance so it is not recommended for use against rough edges. A strap is only as strong as its weakest link. A guide line for finding a safe working load is to take the breaking strength and divide it by one third. For example, Strapworks’ heavyweight polypropylene webbing 1 inch has a breaking strength of 900 pounds, so a safe working load is 300 pounds. You also need to consider your hardware and stitching. The 1 inch Ratchet Buckle is not rated. You also need to calculate your safe working load for your buckles and your stitching. When in doubt, buy 1 strap and test it for your application. Ratchet buckle options include: 1 inch coated black, 1 inch black padded, 1 inch red padded heavy duty, and 1 inch stainless steel with or without buckle pad sewn on the strap. Your choice of end hardware includes: Coated S-Hooks, Coated Safety S-Hooks, Wire Hooks, O-Rings, Metal Beefy Snaps, Coated Flat Hooks (Rounded), Coated Flat Hooks (Squared), Stainless Steel Flat Hooks, Stainless Steel Wire Hooks.

 

 

Ratchet Straps made with heavyweight polypropylene webbing are suitable for medium duty outdoor applications. Heavyweight polypropylene webbing has excellent UV protect and does not absorb water quickly giving it better better resistant to mildew and rot resistance. However, polypropylene does not have good abrasion resistance, so it is not recommended for use against rough edges.

Ratchet straps made with flat nylon webbing is the webbing of choice for high abrasion applications. It is not recommended for use in or around water continuously because it is less water resistant, making it susceptible to mildew and rot.

Ratchet Straps made with patterned polyester webbing are perfect for heavy loads with high abrasion. Polyester has the best attributes of flat nylon (abrasion resistance) and heavyweight polypropylene (UV protection, water resistance).

Strapworks’ "Patterned Polyester" is polyester that has been sublimated. Sublimation is a process that virtually tattoos the ink into the webbing by turning a solid ink into a permeating gas. This process is done in house and it allows for great detail and vivid custom colorfast colors. Polyester is the only material we carry that is consistent in its ability to be sublimated.

 

 

Ratchet Straps made with polyester seatbelt webbing are ideally suited for outdoor light duty use. Other than breaking strength and webbing thickness, they have the same attributes as heavyweight polypropylene webbing.
