If you are using your straps in such a way as they are resting on something sensitive (like a car's paint job), buckle pads can ease the concern you should have about possible abrasion. Although we don't try to convince you to get these as standard equipment, they probably should be standard for roof rack straps, for straps that might rest on unreinforced parts of your raft, and any other sensitive areas. We used to cut slits and slip these pads on. However, we found they have a tendency to migrate. Now they are sewn on. So keep in mind, this is a permanent addition to your strap.
